back at newps

Found ourselves back at Newps this past Saturday for another surf sesh. Seems as though we'd become used to Blackies...and its starting to feel a little like home. Saturday the water was again, frigid. But the sun soon peaked its little head out and we were golden. The waves were chillennn saturday morning and there were a bunch of little grooms in the water. These little babes out there in the waves...quite the encouragement. Anyway...we had a fun sesh just playing in the seaaa.
Sarah's up!
 baby waves
good day sliding i'd say.

B L A C K I E S

surfed blackies again this past Friday.
the water was frigid, but we managed to survive.
tryin to catch a few baby waves
had to move the car about a block or so to pick up some food before we
headed back home...so instead of loading the boards up on top we just
stuffed 'em in and crammed. haha. This surf sesh was a load of fun. Being able to surf with
Nati Sarah and Liana was rad...and it's cool just being out in the water with everyone.
the waves werent ideal, but we made the most of it. until next time..!

surf sesh #2

fitness for life surfing class...YEE BUDDYYY!!

surf sesh #2...Huntington beach.
Headed out on a beautiful saturday with a bunch of other people from our surfing
class + some other friends who wanted to tag along for the ride.
It was cool to hit up Huntington and see the waves it had to offer..as opposed to Newport.
The waves were definitely a bit rougher...and the current had a strong strong pull south.
Also, I found out Huntington has a mad sand bar where you awkwardly swim out a few paddles..
then can stand straight back up. haha. But it was so rad being out there in the ocean with a bunch
of other people. Pete and Natijane were great teachers...were so patient with us newbs..
and let us watch them shhredddd a bit after.

(once again, sorry for no in the water shots. will bring waterproof cam next time!)

Phase 2: get in the water

Surfed Newport for my first "official" surf sesh with Natijane. Headed out at around 8am and arrived to a B-E-A-utiful day at the sea. Lucky for me...Natijane has 2 board with her at school. Her longboad (her baby) and another one of her boards from home. This is the ideal situation because I can surf on her boards and I dont have to purchase my own yet! (waiting till I get better) The waves were pretty rockin...lucky for me Nati coached me though it (which is ironic..since I 'taught' surfing all summer). Anyway..wish we had our waterproof camera to snap some shots. The furthest we got was taking some iphone pics by the car. It was such a fun session...stood up a couple of times and got a little taste of what surfing can be for me...for the rest of my life. I'm hooked!

phase 1: get a wetsuit.

This past summer I worked at a Christian camp in Ojai Valley, CA.
I was a lifeguard most of the time...and lo-and-behold..a surf instructor the rest of the time.
yes yes...I instructed campers on surfing. Bummer was...that I never go to actually practice because I had to be in the water making sure middle school kids weren't being trampled by waves. Also, our camp has a plethora of wetsuits that we've accumulated over the year so I never had to buy my own. until today. (this photo was taken at the beginning of the semester sometime) I figured..."how will I become a better surfer if I don't even have my own wetsuit?" I was in it to win it. I'm committed now.
It's really happening and i'm ALL in.
